Kenmore electric ranges provide a safer way to cook, with no worries about naked flames. Feel easy knowing that your oven won’t be a gas-leak risk in your kitchen. An electric range uses elements under the cooktop, for an easy to clean flat surface.
Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. The 'F2' fault code indicates the oven got too hot. Let the oven cool down before reconnecting the power cord.
If 'F2' displays when cold, this could indicate a faulty electronic oven control board or a faulty oven temperature sensor probe. The oven temperature sensor probe is located in the upper left or upper rear corner. It can likely be removed from inside the oven cavity and tested for proper resistance with an Ohm meter. The oven sensor probe should measure approximately 1100 Ohms at room temperature. If the oven sensor measures approximately 1100 Ohms, I suspect a faulty electronic oven control or a shorted oven element. If one of the oven elements has burnt out and shorted to ground, it can cause the element to remain on and cause the oven to over heat. Disconnect the power cord and let the oven cool.
Plug the range back in and wait to see the oven begins to heat. If it does, this could indicate a stuck relay on the electronic oven control or a shorted and faulty oven element. The oven elements can be disconnected and tested to see if it's shorted to ground using the Ohm meter. You would have to place one meter lead on the terminal of the element and then with the other meter lead touch the heating element case/housing. Then place the meter lead to other terminal and case/housing and see if measures continuity.
If it measure continuity, replace the heating element. NOTE: Disconnect the range from the power source before removing and testing the oven elements.
I added a video showing how to test the oven elements and a video showing how to test the oven sensor. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services.
