I could also have increased the German level of readiness so that reinforcements would have been more likely to appear. In hindsight, I think I made the American forces too strong, though the reinforcements are random so if a Tiger showed up rather than an infantry squad or a “false alarm” it could have turned out quite differently. The Pak 40 fired, missed, and an HE round finished them off. The lead tank took a chance, moving out from behind a building. Therefore, the US forces knew where the last one was. The Germans that survived attempted to fire on the American squad on the right but were quickly cut down.Īs the lead tank continued its advance it came in sight of a possible ATG position, and it was a blank. Building blown up? Just lift off the complete version to reveal the collapsed one underneath. What I love about this company is that they provide a collapsed version of each building that fits inside the complete one, giving it additional support. I purchased 12 buildings from them (construction was quick and easy) as well as 4 or 5 outbuildings, and a lot of garden walls (that I haven’t completed yet), all for $60 including shipping to Canada. I should mention here that the majority of the buildings on this table came from a company called Paper terrain. The command tank then fired on the building containing the other German squad, causing it to collapse. Fortunately, the lead tank was able to advance before the Germans could activate and turn its coaxial MMG on the German LMG crew. Both turned their fire on the infantry squad and it was cut down, leaving only the Leader and the BAR gunner, both knocked to the ground.

Unfortunately, the charge carried them into range and LOS for the forward most PEF (which resolved as a LMG) and a house (which was occupied by a full German squad).
They moved in but failed to Fast Move so some of the figures weren’t able to reach the combat, but the dice were in their favour and the US troops wiped out the German crew with only one man put out of the fight. They closed up and prepared for an assault. Meanwhile, the Star’s squad formed up around an abandoned house and spotted the first ATG! Ready for assault The tanks continued crawling up the road. It moved up to a hedgerow to try to get a clear shot on one of the tanks but was spotted by the lead tank who quickly reloaded with HE and got a shot off, killing the squad to a man. No ATGĪs the US forces advanced, a PEF was revealed as a small German First contact! I immediately resolved an ATG position as a false alarm, and the flanking infantry scouted a house and found no-one inside. The Star’s squad quickly hightailed it to the left to flank any encountered Germans. The US entered with the tanks and half track on the road, flanked by 2 infantry squads. I also set up 3 PEFs (possible enemy forces – 2HW’s fog of war ingeniousness). I set up 5 white dice in good defensive positions, and as they entered US LOS, the die was rolled with a 1 or 2 revealing one of the the 2 ATGs and a 4-6 being a false alarm. The US forces entered from the lower right. For simplicity, I chose not to use abilities, and to set all members of a squad as the same Rep, except for my star. They also allow you pick a Star, who has more abilities, cinematic advantages, and self control than the rest of the grunts. The first, under-strengthed squad was led by my Rep 5 Star.Īt this point, let me state that 2HW use Rep as a measure of skill and morale, with 4 being a decent, reasonably experienced soldier. To do this, they have 3 sherman tanks (2x 75mm, Rep 4, 3, and a Rep 4 leader in a 76mm), as well as 3 squads of infantry (Rep 4, 4 (in a half-track), and 3). In this scenario, the Americans are charged with finding and eliminating 2 Pak 40 ATGs from somewhere in or around a Norman village. These rules (like all the 2HW cousins) are not the most amazing rules for the period (see Chain of Command!) but they are fun and easy, and mostly they are ideal for solo gaming, providing good AI as well as a randomness that keeps the fog of war high. I ran a WW2 game of NUTS! from Two Hour Wargames. This is my first attempt at publishing an AAR.
